Ben Stokes Cricket Regulator scrutiny has ended with no action taken against the England captain or Gus Atkinson after the nightclub incident that kept both players out of last week’s Test against New Zealand.
The independent Cricket Regulator found there was "insufficient evidence" to prove either player had breached ECB Cricket Regulations. The decision matters because Stokes and Atkinson have now been recalled for Thursday’s series decider against New Zealand at Trent Bridge.

Stokes And Atkinson Cleared By Regulator
The review followed an incident involving Saracens’ Samoan rugby union player Totoa Auvaa.
The Cricket Regulator said its role was limited to deciding whether any player or participant had breached ECB Cricket Regulations, rather than judging internal team rules.
"The Cricket Regulator's role is to determine whether any participant or player has breached any applicable ECB Cricket Regulations. The investigation followed multiple lines of enquiry to gather and assess evidence in relation to the events in question.
"Having carefully reviewed all currently available information, the Cricket Regulator has determined that there is insufficient evidence to establish that any regulatory breach occurred. Accordingly, no further action will be taken against either player.
ECB Issues Conduct Warnings
A separate England and Wales Cricket Board investigation also cleared Stokes and Atkinson of wrongdoing in the altercation.
However, both players were issued written conduct warnings for breaching "specific contractual obligations". That outcome leaves them available for England as the Test series reaches its final match at Trent Bridge.
The ruling gives England a cleaner build-up to the decider after a disruptive week around two key players.
Stokes’ return restores the captain to the side, while Atkinson gives England another bowling option against New Zealand.
