Max King will miss the rest of the 2026 AFL season after scans confirmed a strain in his left hamstring following St Kilda’s win over North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium. The key forward suffered the injury during his first senior appearance in 757 days, ending another difficult comeback.
Max King left the field in the third quarter as St Kilda completed a 13.15 (93) to 8.14 (62) victory. The setback is a major blow for the 10th-placed club as it fights to stay inside the AFL finals wildcard positions.

Max King Faces Another Long Recovery
Scans confirmed the hamstring strain on Monday, with St Kilda immediately ruling Max King out for the remainder of the season.
"It's an incredibly disappointing outcome for Max, who has done everything possible throughout his rehabilitation to put himself in the best position to return," St Kilda general manager of football Lenny Hayes said.
"He's an incredibly important part of our football club. We'll continue to wrap our arms around him and provide all the support he needs as he works through this latest setback.
"Our focus now turns to ensuring Max undertakes a full pre-season to allow him to get back and play consistent senior football in 2027."
Max King had not played an AFL match since June 30, 2024, after dealing with knee and soft-tissue injuries. He also suffered a hamstring injury during one of his two Victorian Football League appearances earlier this year.
Finn Callaghan Also Ruled Out
Greater Western Sydney Giants midfielder Finn Callaghan will also miss the rest of the season after spraining his ankle during the derby loss to Sydney Swans.
"Following scans and a specialist consultation, Callaghan and the club's medical team have opted for surgery to repair the damage," Greater Western Sydney Giants said.
Finn Callaghan is expected to spend about 12 weeks on the sidelines. Official injury and fixture updates are available through the AFL website.
