Jordan Ridley is considering a move away from Essendon as his management contacts Victorian clubs ahead of the next AFL trade period. The 27-year-old defender had previously looked at Queensland options but is now open to remaining in Victoria.
Jordan Ridley suffered another setback with a foot sprain over the weekend and has managed only 26 games across the past three seasons. He remains contracted to Essendon for another two years but admitted he was “not sure at this stage” whether he would stay in 2027.

Jordan Ridley Management Tests Victorian Market
Seven reporter Mitch Cleary said Jordan Ridley was seeking a fresh start after another injury-hit campaign.
“He doesn’t want to be at Essendon next year. And my belief now is his management is canvassing clubs in Victoria.”
“Such is the desire for him to get out of that club and try and seek a fresh start, despite having a couple of years left on his contract.”
Rivals Circle Calsher Dear
Hawthorn forward Calsher Dear could also attract strong interest after playing only six AFL matches this season. Mitch Lewis has signed a new deal, Jack Gunston has earned a one-year extension and Ben King is reportedly expected to join Hawthorn as a free agent in 2027.
“I expect clubs to come hard for him in the next month, now that Lewis has re-signed and King is bound for Dingley,” Mitch Cleary said.
Collingwood could enter the race after previously showing interest in Mitch Lewis and other key forwards.
Tasmania Devils Target Giants Pair
Tasmania Devils are reportedly preparing a serious approach for Greater Western Sydney Giants defender Lachie Ash. The expansion club has also been linked with midfielder Tom Green, with both players contracted until the end of 2027.
Ken Hinkley was appointed the inaugural Tasmania Devils coach last week, while the club has a $5 million signing bonus pool available to attract established players.
