De’Aaron Fox Spurs speculation has been shut down by San Antonio Spurs general manager Brian Wright after the guard came under scrutiny following the NBA Finals loss to the New York Knicks.
Fox struggled during the 2026 NBA Finals, where San Antonio Spurs were beaten by New York Knicks in five games, leading to questions over whether the former All-Star could be moved. Wright addressed the issue after the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft and made clear the franchise still sees Fox as a major part of its plans.

Wright Backs Fox After Finals Struggles
“The confidence level is very high,” Wright said.
“We have the ultimate faith in De’Aaron and who he is as a player, what he’s been for us, and what he means to this team. And there’s no wavering in that at all.”
The comment came after a difficult Finals series for Fox, who could not give San Antonio Spurs the level of production expected from one of their veteran leaders.
The pressure was sharper because the series was played on the biggest stage, with New York Knicks controlling the matchup and ending San Antonio’s title bid in five games.
Young Backcourt Adds To Debate
Fox’s future has also been discussed because of the growth of San Antonio’s younger guards.
Dylan Harper made an immediate impact during his rookie season, while Stephon Castle continued to move forward in his development. Their progress has sparked debate over how Fox fits beside them long term.
For now, San Antonio Spurs appear focused on getting Fox healthy and ready for training camp.
The organisation’s public stance is firm, but questions about role, roster balance and trade chatter are likely to remain part of the conversation entering next season.
