Dragons roster overhaul has taken another significant step with reports prop Emre Guler will leave St George Illawarra at the end of 2026 to join Super League side Wakefield Trinity. The reported move comes amid major squad changes at the club and follows news that Moses Suli had been told he could explore opportunities elsewhere despite remaining under contract. The developments matter because St George Illawarra is undergoing one of the largest roster transformations in the NRL ahead of 2027.
Guler arrival at the Dragons came in 2025 after spending seven seasons with the Canberra Raiders.
Since joining the club, the 28 year old has played 27 matches.
He has featured in all 12 games so far this season.
Reports from the United Kingdom now suggest that journey could soon be ending.
Guler latest player heading overseas
If confirmed, Guler would become the third Dragons top 30 player moving to England for 2027.
Captain Damien Cook and outside back Mathew Feagai have already secured moves to Castleford Tigers.
Guler started the current season as first choice prop.
However, recent selection trends suggest his role has changed.
Young forwards Toby Couchman and Loko Jnr Pasifiki Tonga have increasingly been preferred by interim coach Dean Young.
The shift has seen Guler spend more time coming from the interchange bench.
During the Dragons Round 13 victory over Brisbane, he played only 23 minutes.
That reduced role has intensified speculation surrounding his future.
Wakefield building strong recruitment drive
Wakefield Trinity continues strengthening its squad as the club pushes higher up the Super League ladder.
The club currently sits fifth and remains within striking distance of competition leaders Leeds Rhinos.
Guler is also expected to join another high profile recruit.
Roger Tuivasa Sheck will officially move to Wakefield after finishing with the New Zealand Warriors at the end of 2026.
In practical terms, however, Tuivasa Sheck may have already played his final NRL match after suffering an ACL injury earlier this season.
Wakefield aggressive recruitment reflects growing competition between Super League clubs for experienced NRL talent.
For players such as Guler, the move provides another opportunity later in their careers.
Dragons roster transformation accelerating
The Dragons have become one of the busiest clubs in player market discussions.
Several departures have already been confirmed or strongly linked.
Jaydn Su’A is heading to Parramatta.
Tyrell Sloan has reportedly been given permission to negotiate with rival clubs.
Moses Suli was recently informed he could also explore opportunities elsewhere.
At the same time, St George Illawarra has aggressively targeted replacements.
Luke Metcalf, Scott Drinkwater, Keaon Koloamatangi, Phillip Sami, and Connor Watson are among the players expected to arrive.
Major rebuild underway
The scale of changes means the Dragons squad could look dramatically different by the start of 2027.
The club current position has increased pressure for change.
After struggling throughout the season, St George Illawarra remains firmly near the bottom of premiership projections.
Management appears committed to reshaping the roster rather than making minor adjustments.
Exactly how successful that strategy becomes may depend on how quickly new signings settle and younger players develop.
For now, the list of outgoing players continues to grow.
Guler potential move to Wakefield is simply the latest indication that significant change remains underway at the Dragons.
