Corey Parker has launched a fierce criticism of Brisbane after the Broncos suffered a surprise 30 26 defeat to St George Illawarra, with the club legend describing the performance as unacceptable. The loss marked Brisbane’s fourth consecutive defeat and left the club facing mounting pressure ahead of a crucial clash against Gold Coast.
The defeat carried extra significance because St George Illawarra had not won a game since August, making Brisbane the first side to lose to the Dragons during that stretch.
Parker used his SENQ breakfast show to express frustration with both the performance and the broader situation facing the club.
“The Broncos were absolutely appalling yesterday,” Parker said.
“The Dragons hadn’t won a game all year, it was such a Broncos thing to do.”
Parker questions Brisbane response after bye
Parker argued the result was particularly disappointing given Brisbane entered the match with several advantages.
The Broncos were coming off a bye and had welcomed back several important players, creating expectations of a stronger performance.
Instead, Brisbane struggled for large portions of the contest before mounting a late comeback that ultimately proved insufficient.
“They were totally outplayed,” Parker said.
“They made late comeback but got what they deserved.”
The former Queensland representative questioned how the team could deliver such a display after additional preparation time.
“Aside from what they produced on the field, they’ve come off a bye,” Parker said.
“They've had four days off and they tossed up that?”
“I mean, it’s unacceptable.”
Broncos season slipping away
Brisbane now faces increasing pressure as its season approaches a critical point.
The Broncos have lost four straight matches and sit two wins outside the top eight.
A team expected to challenge for finals football now finds itself searching urgently for momentum.
Defensive inconsistencies and missed opportunities have become recurring problems during the losing streak.
While the Broncos showed some attacking improvement late against St George Illawarra, the recovery came too late to prevent another damaging result.
The defeat also raises questions about Brisbane’s ability to respond under pressure as the competition enters the second half of the season.
Local derby becomes season defining contest
Attention now shifts quickly toward Saturday night’s meeting with Gold Coast.
The local derby has suddenly become one of the most important games of Brisbane’s campaign.
Another defeat would further damage finals hopes and intensify scrutiny surrounding the club’s performances.
The Titans matchup also presents an opportunity.
A victory could halt the losing run and provide much needed momentum heading into the remainder of the season.
For now, however, Parker’s criticism reflects growing frustration among former players and supporters.
Dragons finally break drought
While much of the focus remains on Brisbane’s struggles, the result also represented an important breakthrough for St George Illawarra.
The Dragons ended a lengthy winless run and produced one of their strongest performances of the season.
Their ability to control large periods of the match and withstand Brisbane’s late pressure ultimately delivered a valuable reward.
For Brisbane, though, attention remains firmly on fixing problems quickly before the season moves beyond reach.
