The Houston Astros injuries story has become one of the biggest talking points in MLB after fresh injured list data showed no team has been hit harder early in the 2026 season. Houston now has 16 players placed on the IL, including recent addition Taylor Trammell, making the Astros the league’s most affected roster. It matters because injuries can shape standings, rotation depth and playoff hopes before the season fully settles.
Astros Lead MLB in Injured Players
According to figures discussed on Yahoo Sports’ Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Houston has 11 players on the 10-day or 15-day injured list, meaning a large portion of the active squad is unavailable. Ten of the injured players are pitchers, while six are position players.
That imbalance is a major issue. Losing arms forces constant bullpen adjustments, while missing hitters weakens lineup depth across a long schedule.
Jordan Shusterman said: “We’re so healthy. We’ve got everyone available. Nobody’s hurt!” while joking that teams rarely talk about good fortune.
Other Teams Also Dealing With Injury Problems
The Los Angeles Dodgers rank second with 13 injured players, while the Baltimore Orioles have 12. The Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays each sit on 11.
That shows Houston is not alone, but the Astros still top the list.

Healthier Clubs Gaining Early Edge
At the other end, the Cleveland Guardians, Pittsburgh Pirates and Athletics reportedly have only two injured players each. Fewer absences often help teams build rhythm and consistency.
Houston now faces Cleveland in a matchup that highlights both extremes. If the Astros can stay competitive through this stretch, they may become more dangerous once players return.
