Travis Bazzana’s first MLB hit finally arrived in a pressure moment as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Athletics 14-6 at Raley Field in West Sacramento on May 3, 2026, and it mattered because it showed why the Australian No.1 draft pick is already trusted in big situations.
Bazzana breaks through in clutch moment
After starting his MLB career 0-for-9, Bazzana stepped up in the seventh inning with bases loaded and delivered a two-run single that pushed the Guardians ahead 9-5. The crowd reacted instantly as the ball slipped past a diving infielder, while his family celebrated wildly in the stands.
“It felt great,” he said. “Nothing but good feelings. Once it squeaked through, it was nice to get a couple of RBI and get the first one out of the way.”
Strong response after slow start
The 23-year-old also added a stolen base and finished with two RBIs. His manager Stephen Vogt said: “It came in a huge spot for us to extend the lead.”
Bazzana admitted the wait was starting to build. “After the first at-bat, you start to notice that it’s getting a little long.”
