Dolphins halfback Isaiya Katoa says he is ready for another big challenge when his side meets Penrith in Darwin on Friday night. The young playmaker will again come up against Panthers star Nathan Cleary in one of the key matchups of the round.
“It’s awesome to come up against someone you looked up to and tried to base your game off,” Katoa told AAP.
Katoa and Cleary have already produced exciting contests. Cleary kicked the winning golden point field goal in a 28-26 thriller in 2024, while Katoa helped the Dolphins beat Penrith 30-10 last season.
“I took a lot of lessons out of that game and hopefully it has made me a better player now,” Katoa said.
The Dolphins need a response after recent losses, including a heavy defeat to Manly. Katoa admitted he must do more to guide the side.
“We have to do more with the footy than we have been lately.”
Penrith remain favourites, but the Dolphins believe they can compete if their young halfback leads strongly.
