Nate Caddy has been cleared to represent Essendon Bombers against Hawthorn Hawks at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday after an elevated heart rate forced him to leave last weekend’s win over Greater Western Sydney Giants.
The 21-year-old was taken to hospital as a precaution before being assessed, discharged and approved to resume training. Essendon Bombers confirmed his availability in an official injury update.
The clearance comes during another busy week of club decisions, after Carlton Blues began their coach search as the AFL considered shorter games.
Solomon Trusts Medical Clearance
“He'll be good to go,” interim coach Dean Solomon said.
“They said there's no risk with what happened and he's fully good to go. I trust our medical staff, and Nate's in a good headspace as well.
“So we've just got to trust our medical staff.”
Nate Caddy’s return is timely because Essendon Bombers have lost Xavier Duursma to a season-ending hamstring injury. Kyle Langford will also miss the Hawthorn Hawks match through suspension.
McKay Misses Carlton Training
Harry McKay did not participate in Carlton Blues’ main Thursday session after suffering a minor meniscus tear and bone bruising against Collingwood Magpies. His knee struck teammate Sam Walsh during the 21-point defeat.
Interim coach Josh Fraser said Carlton Blues were focused on supporting Harry McKay ahead of Saturday’s match against Gold Coast Suns at Docklands.
“Whenever there's an injury, your mindset goes to the care and support for the player,” Josh Fraser said.
