Mac Andrew and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan have denied any misconduct after the Gold Coast Suns reviewed online footage of the pair leaving an accessible toilet during last Wednesday’s State of Origin decider at Suncorp Stadium.
The Gold Coast Suns became aware of the footage on Tuesday morning as it circulated online and through private group chats. Club officials then spoke with both players before backing their accounts.
The news comes as the club continues securing its young players, with Jed Walter rejecting rival interest to remain with the Gold Coast Suns.
“Whilst there is no indication of any wrongdoing by either player in the vision, the club has spoken with both players who deny any insinuation of misconduct,” a Gold Coast Suns spokesperson said.
No evidence of wrongdoing has been reported, and the footage alone does not establish misconduct by either player.
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan did not play in the AFL or VFL last weekend, although the Gold Coast Suns said the forward was being managed. Mac Andrew recorded 15 disposals and six marks during the club’s 79-point AFL defeat to the Adelaide Crows.
Mac Andrew has been one of the Gold Coast Suns’ steadiest defenders during a difficult season. His official contract extension keeps him at the club until the end of 2030.
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has made three senior appearances and played several VFL games since joining from the Western Bulldogs. The forward is discussing a new contract, with his current agreement due to expire at the end of the season.
