The Stephen Crichton injury update has brought relief to the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs after their captain was carried from Accor Stadium during Saturday night’s 40-16 NRL loss to the Canberra Raiders. Medical checks have indicated a pinched nerve rather than the serious neck or spinal injury initially feared.
Stephen Crichton temporarily lost feeling in one arm after a tackle and remained on the ground while medical staff assessed him. He was moved on a medicab while wearing a neck brace as every safety measure was followed.
Elsewhere in rugby league, Payne Haas has confirmed his Samoa commitment for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.
Stephen Crichton Avoids Serious Damage
The official NRL casualty ward lists Stephen Crichton with a pinched nerve and no confirmed return date. His progress during the week will decide whether he can be considered for the next round.
“Thank you all for the messages & prayers! Doesn't go unnoticed!”
“Nothing too serious, but I appreciate the love and support.”
Bulldogs Await Captain’s Return
The initial loss of feeling explained why medical staff treated the incident with such care. Nerve irritation around the neck and shoulder can cause temporary weakness or numbness even when scans show no major structural injury.
Stephen Crichton’s leadership, defensive organisation and ball distribution remain central to the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. His return would be a major boost after the defeat left the club 11th and fighting to rescue its NRL finals campaign.
