Jarome Luai Parramatta Eels talk has intensified after reports claimed Wests Tigers have allowed the star five-eighth to look elsewhere before the end of his deal.
Parramatta Eels coach Jason Ryles addressed the speculation on Friday, while keeping his focus on Saturday’s NRL clash with Sydney Roosters.
The player market story lands during a busy Round 19, with Melbourne Storm vs Gold Coast Titans also shaping the weekend’s rugby league schedule.
Ryles Responds To Luai Talk
Luai has already signed to become the face of the PNG Chiefs when the expansion club enters the NRL in 2028.
Code Sports reporter Brent Read told NRL 360 he would be “stunned” if Luai did not land at Parramatta Eels, with the Perth Bears also a possible option as they search for a marquee name.
“There’s a little bit about Jerome at the moment,” he said.
“Obviously he’s an elite talent. We’re always looking at an elite talent to bring to our club, but that’s all really fresh at the moment.
“I honestly don’t know too much about it, to be honest with you. It’s something that obviously is worth a conversation, and we’ll just see where that goes.”
Eels Halves Picture Opens
Jonah Pezet is set to join Brisbane Broncos before the 2027 season, leaving a possible halves vacancy at Parramatta Eels next year.
“I’ve not thought about it, I’ve not even got to that point,” Ryles responded.
“I’ve been really focused on our game tomorrow against the Roosters and we’ve just finished our final prep then, so I might start thinking about it now.
“He’s an elite talent. He’s a four-time premiership player, and I think that speaks for itself. Obviously he’s a quality player and his standing in the game is where it is because of his performances on the field.”
Ryles also confirmed Mitchell Moses will not play again for Parramatta Eels this season after his State of Origin efforts, with Pezet returning to the starting side.
