Brandon Starcevich West Coast hopes remain tied to the bigger picture, with the former Brisbane Lions premiership defender backing the rebuilding Eagles before Sunday’s AFL clash with the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.
The 26-year-old returned home to Perth on a four-year deal after playing in three straight grand finals and winning two flags with the Brisbane Lions, but his West Coast Eagles start has been slowed by a serious calf injury.

Starcevich Backs Young Eagles Group
Starcevich has missed all four of West Coast Eagles’ wins this season and is currently 0-4 in his new colours after returning in round 13.
Still, he sees enough in the youngest squad in the league to believe better football is coming.
“It’s pretty exciting,” Starcevich said.
“There’s heaps of talent in the building and that talent combined with that willingness to learn and grow - these kids are going to be just fine in a few years.
“They’re an energetic bunch, which is really good, they sort of keep you up and about.”
Slow Starts Remain A Clear Issue
West Coast Eagles sit 4-12 and enter the match on a four-game losing run, while the Western Bulldogs are 9-7 and pushing toward a top-six finish.
The Eagles have been strong late in matches, but their first-quarter form has hurt them badly, losing 13 of 16 opening terms this season.
“We know we’re a fit group and we can run out games well,” Starcevich said.
“But it’d be nice to not have to chase the game.”
Ruck Battle Shapes Sunday Test
Tim English will be watched closely after a quiet outing in the Western Bulldogs’ 35-point loss to Sydney Swans last week.
He and Rory Lobb were beaten by Brodie Grundy in the ruck, and English now faces West Coast Eagles big man Bailey Williams.
West Coast Eagles are unchanged, while the Western Bulldogs lose Nick Coffield, Connor Budarick and Ryley Sanders to injury. Fans can follow fixtures and match information through the official Australian Football League website.
