Elijah Hewett contract extension has ended months of uncertainty, with the West Coast Eagles midfielder rejecting rival Victorian interest to sign a new four-year deal through to the end of 2030.
The 22-year-old was due to come out of contract at the end of this AFL season, but the new agreement ties him to West Coast Eagles until he reaches free agency.
His decision adds another list stability story in the AFL, with Conor Nash’s Hawthorn Hawks injury setback showing how quickly club planning can shift through a long season.
Hewett Commits To West Coast Eagles
Hewett has played 40 AFL games since West Coast Eagles selected him with pick No.14 in the 2022 draft. The Swan Districts product missed the entire 2024 season with a serious foot injury before playing a career-best 20 games last year.
“I’m absolutely stoked to re-sign. This club means a lot to me as a West Coast boy,” he said.
“It’s been a challenging year, but I feel I’m a part of something bigger, which is the convincing factor.
“I love putting on the blue and gold and I’m keen to put my head down and get back to work.”
Eagles Back Long-Term Growth
Hewett’s 2026 season has been interrupted by a quad injury, a forward role from rounds five to eight, and later selection pressure after returning through the WAFL.
West Coast Eagles list boss Matt Clarke said the club still views him as a major part of its rebuild.
“We are pleased to announce a four-year contract extension for Elijah Hewett, securing his future with the club until 2030,” Clarke said.
“Elijah has just turned 22, and we see him as an integral part of our future as we continue the rejuvenation of our playing list.
“The extension aligns with the club’s plans to build a strong and sustainable foundation for long-term success.
“Elijah has faced some challenges throughout 2026, however he has worked diligently with our football staff and remains committed to becoming the best player he can be.
“He is an exciting young talent with significant potential, and we are looking forward to seeing his continued growth and development in the years ahead.”
