Achraf Hakimi trial proceedings are set to follow after the Versailles Court of Appeal confirmed the Morocco captain must face court over an allegation that he raped a woman in 2023.
Hakimi, 27, denies the accusation and responded on X on the day he was due to lead Morocco against Scotland in their second 2026 FIFA World Cup group match in Boston. The case matters because the Paris Saint-Germain defender remains a key figure for Morocco while awaiting a trial date.

Hakimi Responds After Appeal Decision
The Versailles Court of Appeal confirmed on Friday that Hakimi must stand trial after reports in France said he had appealed an investigating judge’s decision from late February.
The alleged incident took place at Hakimi’s home in Paris when the woman was 24.
"Justice looked me in the eyes and said to me: 'If you weren't famous, there never would have been a case.'"
"I chose to remain silent for years. I thought that staying dignified, being patient, and trusting the justice system would allow the right decisions to be made.
"Today, a story that is not mine is being told to the detriment of my family, my life, and above all, the truth.
"I sometimes get the feeling that I have become an easy target. I have been awaiting the trial since day one. And I await it now impatiently. At last, I will be able to speak."
Morocco Wait On Captain
No date has been set for the trial, and it remains unclear whether the pending court case will affect Hakimi’s World Cup involvement.
Hakimi has made 97 appearances for Morocco since his debut in 2016 at age 17. He has also helped Paris Saint-Germain win back-to-back Champions League titles.
The alleged victim’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, said the appeal court’s decision gave her client “relief and hope.”
