Premier League fixtures for the 2026-27 season have given Coventry City a demanding return to the top flight, with Frank Lampard’s promoted side opening away to champions Arsenal on August 21.
Coventry City are back in the Premier League for the first time in 25 years, and their first test comes at Emirates Stadium against Mikel Arteta’s title holders. The schedule matters because the opening month also brings early heavyweight meetings involving Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Promoted Clubs Handed Big Tests
Hull City begin their campaign at home to Manchester United on August 22, giving the newly promoted club a standout first fixture.
Ipswich Town, the third promoted side, host Sunderland on the same day. If the relegation fight reaches the final weekend, Coventry City, Hull City and Ipswich Town will all finish at home, facing Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Everton respectively.
Opening Weekend Brings Major Storylines
Manchester City start the post-Pep Guardiola era at home to Bournemouth, while Brentford host Tottenham Hotspur and Everton welcome Conference League champions Crystal Palace.
Leeds United visit Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa travel to Brighton & Hove Albion after their Europa League win, and Xabi Alonso begins his Chelsea reign with a west London derby away to Fulham.
Liverpool begin with a difficult trip to Newcastle United on August 23, with Andoni Iraola taking charge of his first match as Liverpool manager.
Derby Dates And Title Tests
Arsenal face a tough early spell after Coventry City, with a trip to Aston Villa followed by a home meeting with Chelsea.
The first Manchester derby of the post-Guardiola era is set for September 12 at Old Trafford, where Michael Carrick’s Manchester United will host Manchester City.
Manchester City and Arsenal first meet on November 28, the same weekend as the Merseyside derby at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Tottenham Hotspur host Arsenal in the north London derby on December 5, while Coventry City welcome Chelsea on Boxing Day in a special fixture for Lampard.
