Laurie Daley criticism has sparked a fiery response from Queensland Maroons great Gorden Tallis before New South Wales Blues face Queensland in State of Origin Game 2 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
A Code Sports report claimed Daley’s pre-game addresses lacked “oomph” and that his training approach was too passive, prompting a heated debate on NRL 360.
The controversy comes during a tense State of Origin week after Casey McLean Quad Injury Rules Penrith Panthers Star Out of State of Origin Clash, with New South Wales also managing injury setbacks. Fans can follow official updates through the National Rugby League website.
Tallis Defends Daley
Tallis said any New South Wales player who leaked criticism of Daley’s methods should face serious consequences.
“Just name the source. Never hide behind a source,” Tallis said.
The former Queensland forward argued players should not need a coach’s speech to be motivated for State of Origin.
“You should not need to be motivated to play for this state or anybody. We are so privileged to run out in any jersey in rugby league and if you need to be motivated to run out in any jersey in our game, go play another game.
“No coach ever had to tell me the game is at 7.30pm and you have to get ready to go into battle.”
Blues Camp Rejects Concerns
NRL 360 host Braith Anasta described the report as “personal” and a “hit piece”.
Code Sports reporter Michael Carayannis said the information may not have come directly from a player, suggesting it could have moved through club or personal networks before reaching the media.
Foxsports.com.au writer Paul Crawley said unnamed sources are part of reporting, but also questioned whether the noise could affect Daley or his players.
Blues assistant coach Boyd Cordner strongly backed Daley’s work across the first two games.
“We know how much of a good coach Laurie is, the way he’s prepared us throughout Game 1 and then this camp too has been unreal. He has the utmost respect
