Shreyas Iyer is expected to replace Suryakumar Yadav as India T20I captain when selectors name the squad on Saturday for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England.
The move comes as India begin planning for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the next T20 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, with 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also in line for a maiden senior call-up.

Suryakumar Yadav Faces Selection Blow
Suryakumar led India to the T20 World Cup title in March, but his place is now under pressure after a quiet tournament and a poor IPL 2026.
The 35-year-old made 242 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 136.72 during the T20 World Cup, then scored 270 runs in 13 IPL innings at an average of 20.76 and a strike rate of 147.54.
Shreyas has not played a T20I since December 2023, with India previously preferring Suryakumar and Tilak Varma in the middle order.
His leadership record remains strong, having captained Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title in 2024 and led Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings to finals in 2020 and 2025.
Sooryavanshi In Line For Historic Call-Up
Sooryavanshi is expected to become the youngest player named in an India men’s squad since Sachin Tendulkar in the late 1980s.
The teenager forced his way into the discussion with 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30 in IPL 2026.
Before the Ireland and England tour, Sooryavanshi will play for India A in a Sri Lanka tri-series involving Afghanistan from June 9 to 21.
India will face Ireland in two T20Is in Belfast on June 26 and 28, then play five T20Is in England from July 1 to 11. Official India cricket updates are available through the BCCI website.
