Toronto got the boost it badly needed as Trey Yesavage returned from injury and helped the Blue Jays beat Boston 3-0 on Tuesday night. Making his first rookie-season start after time on the injured list with a shoulder issue, the 22-year-old right-hander threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings at Rogers Centre. He allowed four hits, struck out three, and gave home fans another reminder of why he is seen as a key part of Toronto’s future.
Strong Return on the Mound
Yesavage looked calm from the first inning. His fastball had life, and Boston struggled to square him up. The loudest contact allowed was just one extra-base hit, while he did not hand out a single walk. Toronto’s crowd grew louder with every clean inning, especially after a sharp fifth frame where he retired the side in order.
He opened the sixth by striking out Willson Contreras before manager John Schneider turned to the bullpen. As he walked off, fans rose for a standing ovation.
“It was awesome,” Yesavage said of the reception he got at the beginning and end of his start.
“These fans are great, and I’m very blessed to play in front of them.”
Blue Jays Back Their Starter
Toronto gave him enough support through RBI singles from Kazuma Okamoto and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The bullpen handled the rest to secure the shutout win.
Last season, Yesavage jumped from the minors into Toronto’s World Series run. That late-season rise made him one of baseball’s most watched young arms, and this return only added to the excitement.

Why It Matters
Toronto improved to 13-16, while Boston fell to 12-18. If Yesavage stays healthy, the Blue Jays rotation could look very different in the weeks ahead.
