The Junior Caminero injury update brought relief for Tampa Bay Rays fans after the young slugger exited Tuesday’s 1-0 win over the Cleveland Guardians following a painful foul ball to the jaw at Progressive Field. Caminero was hurt in the first inning when a pitch from Tanner Bibee was fouled into the plate and ricocheted into his face. Despite obvious pain, he completed the at-bat before leaving the game. The Rays later said the 22-year-old is day-to-day and could return quickly, a major boost for one of MLB’s hottest teams.
Painful Moment for Rays Star
The incident happened instantly and stunned everyone in the stadium. Caminero swung, the ball hit the plate, then flew back up into the right side of his jaw. He grabbed his face and dropped to the ground as teammates and trainers rushed over.
Many players would have headed straight to the dugout, but Caminero stayed in long enough to finish the plate appearance, grounding out to Bibee. He was then replaced by Ben Williamson.
That short sequence said plenty about the toughness Tampa Bay values in its lineup.
Kevin Cash Gives Positive Update
Rays manager Kevin Cash quickly eased fears after the game.
“He's OK,” Cash said, via MLB.com. “He's in really good spirits, and I would expect him to be in the lineup tomorrow. That ball really came off the plate hard, and I'm just glad that he's in a pretty good spot right now."
That response matters because Caminero has been one of Tampa Bay’s best hitters this season. He entered the game batting .259 with eight home runs and 15 RBI, leading the club in power numbers.

Rays Keep Rolling
Even after losing Caminero mid-game, Tampa Bay stayed sharp. Nick Martinez dominated for seven innings, allowing only three hits, while Jonathan Aranda delivered the winning RBI in the fifth.
The Rays have now won six straight and improved to 18-11. Their strong 13-1 record against American League teams shows this early-season run is no fluke.
If Caminero avoids missing time, Tampa Bay’s lineup remains dangerous heading into the next game of the series Wednesday.
