Luke Currie will partner Winnasedge in Saturday’s Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield as the jockey looks to build momentum following an overseas holiday and a change in management. The 1200-metre contest gives Luke Currie another chance to strengthen his return after guiding the Nick Ryan-trained sprinter to victory earlier this month.
Luke Currie had only two rides at Sandown on Wednesday but won aboard French Accord and finished second with his other mount. He now heads to Caulfield with two bookings, led by Winnasedge in one of the meeting’s main races.

Winnasedge Chases Another Stakes Win
Luke Currie rode Winnasedge to victory in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes over 1100 metres at Caulfield on July 11. That success followed another win over the same distance in June.
“I thought he was going to be a really nice horse,” Luke Currie stated. “He was a bit hot and did a few things wrong, but he had a huge turn of foot, and I think each preparation he has just changed himself a bit and is a bit more adaptable now.”
Winnasedge has recorded four of his six wins over 1100 metres, but he has also won over Saturday’s 1200-metre course at Caulfield.
Barrier Five Offers Tactical Options
Luke Currie expects Winnasedge to use his early speed from barrier five and settle closer than he did in the Sir John Monash Stakes.
“The 1100 (metres) is probably his sweet spot, but from where he’s drawn (five), he’s got the speed to land in a nice spot,” Luke Currie explained. “I think he’s a beautiful ride.”
