Ciaron Maher will launch the spring campaigns of Ghana’s Akan and Milsons Point in Saturday’s Stow Robotics Handicap over 1100 metres at Caulfield. Both young horses return for the first time since autumn, with the stable hoping the race provides a path towards stronger assignments.
Milsons Point has been gelded since contesting the VOBIS Showdown at Caulfield in March. The colt has completed two jump-outs and won an 800-metre heat at the same track last week.

Milsons Point Set for Longer Distances
Ciaron Maher Racing national assistant trainer Jack Turnbull believes Milsons Point will improve as he moves beyond sprint distances.
“He’s a big lad,” Jack Turnbull said. “Last prep he was strong as a colt, but he has softened up a touch as a gelding. He is a miler, that’s his future, so he’ll go up in trip pretty quick.”
The Caulfield Guineas remains a possible spring goal, with the Mike Moroney, Caulfield Guineas Prelude and Stutt Stakes among the races that could shape his campaign.
“We’re pleased with how he’s come back, but his Grand Finals are down the track,” Jack Turnbull said.
Ghana’s Akan Returns Under Top Weight
Ghana’s Akan remains a maiden after four starts but has twice finished second and earned almost $470,000. The Street Boss filly placed second in the Inglis Millennium before running fifth in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.
Ghana’s Akan will carry 59kg, reduced by apprentice Jabez Johnstone’s 3kg claim. The Group 3 Quezette Stakes at Caulfield on August 15 is a possible next target.
“She’s quick, she had a nice trial last week and she’s cleaned up in the skin,” Jack Turnbull said.
