Rodri injury fears have grown after reports Manchester City midfielder Rodri Hernandez may need back surgery, placing his early club fixtures and Spain commitments in doubt.
Manchester City have not confirmed the exact problem or a recovery timetable. The news comes days after Rodri Hernandez captained Spain to the 2026 FIFA World Cup title and won the Golden Ball.
The setback could also shape Spain’s next cycle, with World Cup 2030 power rankings placing Spain among the early leaders.
What the Injury Means for Manchester City
Rodri Hernandez had only recently returned to form after an anterior cruciate ligament injury cost him almost a year. Another absence would remove Manchester City’s main defensive screen and deep distributor.
Without Rodri Hernandez, Manchester City must replace his ability to control tempo, protect the centre-backs and move possession through pressure. Those duties are especially demanding against opponents who counterattack quickly.
The club’s official fixture list begins with several major tests. Rodri Hernandez could miss Arsenal, Bournemouth, Manchester United and Liverpool fixtures.
Spain may also be without Rodri Hernandez for Nations League fixtures against England, Croatia and Czechia.
