Kylian Mbappe World Cup goals have reached 20 from 20 matches after the France captain scored in the 2-0 quarter-final win over Morocco at Boston Stadium.
The 27-year-old’s latest goal kept his tournament scoring ratio at one goal per game and moved him within one of Lionel Messi’s all-time World Cup record of 21.
The milestone came during another France knockout win, with Morocco’s defensive stand against France finally broken by Mbappe and Ousmane Dembélé after half-time.
Mbappe Keeps Historic Pace
Mbappe’s strike against Morocco came after he missed a first-half penalty. France had been held level early in the second half before their captain found the finish that shifted the match.
His 20 World Cup goals have come across the 2018, 2022 and 2026 tournaments. That pace puts him ahead of most great scorers in tournament history at the same stage.
Only Messi, with 21 goals in 31 matches, sits above him on the all-time World Cup scoring list. Miroslav Klose’s old mark of 16 has now been passed by both Messi and Mbappe.
How The Ratio Compares
Mbappe’s 1:1 World Cup goals-to-games ratio places him behind only rare scoring rates among elite names listed in the source data.
Just Fontaine scored 13 goals in six matches for France in 1958, while Erling Haaland has seven goals from four matches for Norway in 2026.
Pelé scored 12 in 14 for Brazil, Ronaldo Nazário hit 15 in 19, and Cristiano Ronaldo has 11 in 27 for Portugal.
Official tournament fixtures and records are available through the FIFA World Cup.
Mbappe was born on December 20, 1998, in Paris, France, and remains young enough to reshape the scoring chart again. If France continue deep into the 2026 tournament, the record could fall before the next World Cup cycle begins.
