France vs Morocco ended with France booking a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals after a 2-0 quarter-final win at Boston Stadium on July 9.
Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé scored after half-time, breaking Morocco’s resistance after a disciplined first-half display from Walid Regragui’s side.
The result added another major chapter to this World Cup knockout stage, following Norway’s football model and Erling Haaland’s rise after their own tournament statement against Brazil.
France Stay Patient After Early Test
Morocco made France work through a tense opening half. The Atlas Lions defended in a tight shape, closed central spaces and tried to stop Mbappé, Dembélé and Michael Olise from running into open grass.
France controlled long spells of possession, but Yassine Bounou gave Morocco belief when he saved Mbappé’s penalty after a lengthy VAR delay.
That moment lifted the Moroccan crowd and kept the contest balanced. France, though, stayed calm and kept moving the ball across the pitch, waiting for gaps to appear.
Mbappé Breaks Morocco Resistance
The match turned on the hour mark when Mbappé finally found space near the box. The France captain curled his finish past Bounou to give Didier Deschamps’ team the lead.
Six minutes later, Dembélé doubled the advantage with a strike from outside the area. Morocco had defended bravely, but the second goal left them with too much to chase.

Morocco pushed higher in the final stages, yet France managed the tempo well. Dayot Upamecano and the French defence dealt with late pressure and protected the clean sheet.
The win ended Morocco’s bid for a second straight World Cup semi-final. For France, it continued another strong tournament run under Deschamps and set up a semi-final against the winner of Spain vs Belgium.
