Brisbane Lions beat Sydney Swans 19.12 (126) to 12.11 (83) at the Gabba on Thursday night, but the match was overshadowed by a Logan Morris goal controversy that has reignited debate over AFL goalkicking rules.
Morris snapped around his body after the third-quarter siren, sending the Gabba crowd into a frenzy, only to have the goal waved off by an umpire who ruled he had not kicked over the man on the mark.

The Controversy Explained
The umpire ruled Morris kicked the ball one or two strides short of the line of the mark. AFL football boss Greg Swann confirmed via Hamish McLachlan that players "do, though, have to kick over the man on the mark."
Commentator Brian Taylor pushed back, saying: "That's not what the rules say." He added: "It clearly says in the rule book 'as long as you don't improve your angle by going past the mark'."
Luke Hodge called it "a mockery" while Kane Cornes said "it might be the worst decision of the year." Cornes also noted: "So we need another amendment and a modification tomorrow, which we're going to have to get because the rules keep changing."
Lions Too Good Despite the Drama
Sydney Swans cut the margin to 28 points early in the final term, but Kai Lohmann quickly steadied with a rapid double to end the contest.
Charlie Cameron kicked two goals, Cameron Rayner three, and Logan Morris three as Brisbane Lions dominated up forward. Lachie Neale finished with 27 disposals and seven clearances.
Swans' Chad Warner Shone in Defeat
Chad Warner was brilliant for Sydney Swans, finishing with four goals, 28 disposals, and eight clearances. Errol Gulden managed 18 touches in his return from a long-term shoulder injury.
Will Ashcroft called the result "definitely a step in the right direction" for Brisbane Lions, who now sit sixth and face Geelong Cats at GMHBA Stadium next Thursday. For full AFL ladder standings, visit the Neale.
