Jermaine McEwen suspension news has hit the Newcastle Knights ahead of their NRL clash with the St George Illawarra Dragons, with the rising second-rower banned for one match after a low-range drink driving offence.
The incident occurred on May 22 and the Knights confirmed McEwen was charged by NSW Police before the club completed its internal disciplinary process.

Knights Hand Down Penalty
McEwen has also received a $5000 suspended fine, which will remain in place for 12 months provided he does not breach the NRL code of conduct again.
The NRL integrity unit has been kept informed during the process and is not expected to issue any further penalty.
“There is no justification for what I did. Getting behind the wheel with alcohol in my system was irresponsible, dangerous, and completely beneath the standards I hold myself to as a person and as a professional footballer,” McEwen said in a club statement.
“I am fully aware of the trust the Newcastle Knights have placed in me, and I let the club, my teammates, and everyone who supports this team down. The NRL is a privilege, and I do not take lightly the responsibility that comes with it.”

McEwen Remains Key To Knights Rise
The 21-year-old has been one of Newcastle’s breakout players since making his NRL debut last season and has formed a strong edge-forward pairing with Dylan Lucas.
Newcastle sit seventh on the NRL ladder after exceeding many pre-season expectations, with McEwen’s power and defensive work helping the Knights build momentum.
Knights director of football Chris James said the club took the matter seriously while continuing to support the young forward.
McEwen is expected to return after serving his one-match ban, with the Knights backing him to learn from the incident and continue his development.
