Mary Fowler Matildas impact is back in focus as the Manchester City forward returns to Australia in 2026 for Matildas friendlies against Mexico after recovering from an ACL injury and winning the FA Cup and Women’s Super League in England.
The 23-year-old said her rehab period helped her reset mentally while watching City succeed from the sidelines before rejoining the squad and lifting her first major trophies. Fowler, who has also become a global name through fashion appearances and her memoir Bloom, says she is learning to manage expectations while staying true to herself.
“I think I always play my best football when I’m really enjoying it,” she said, as Australia begins its build-up toward the Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Her story reflects both elite performance and growing off-field attention, but her focus remains on football and enjoying the game.
