Morgan Rogers has completed a reported British-record £117 million transfer from Aston Villa to London club Chelsea on Tuesday. The 23-year-old England forward has signed until 2033, giving new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso another leading Premier League attacker.

Chelsea did not officially disclose the fee, but reports place it £1 million above Elliot Anderson’s recent £116 million move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City. Alexander Isak’s £125 million transfer from Newcastle United to Liverpool remains the Premier League’s overall record.

The deal follows another possible record move involving Nestory Irankunda and Sporting CP.

Morgan Rogers welcomes Chelsea move

“I'm so excited,” Morgan Rogers told Chelsea’s website.

“For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I've always admired since I was a kid.”

“I'm really excited about the project with the new manager, the players we've got and where the club is heading. That's why I'm here and I can't wait to get started.”

The official Chelsea announcement confirms Morgan Rogers will join Xabi Alonso’s squad before the 2026-27 season. Morgan Rogers becomes Chelsea’s third major off-season arrival after Marco Palestra and Geovany Quenda.

Attacking options grow for Xabi Alonso

Morgan Rogers leaves Aston Villa after scoring 21 goals in 85 Premier League appearances. Morgan Rogers helped Aston Villa secure a top-four finish and win the UEFA Europa League last season before representing England at the FIFA World Cup.

England reached the semi-finals before losing to Argentina, while Morgan Rogers has now collected 22 senior international appearances since making his debut in November 2024.

Morgan Rogers can operate as an attacking midfielder or winger, giving Xabi Alonso another option between the lines and across the forward positions. That flexibility should allow Chelsea to change shape without removing a direct scoring threat.

Aston Villa signed Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough for a reported £8 million in February 2024. The new fee would deliver a huge return for Aston Villa, although replacing one of the Premier League’s leading young attackers will be difficult.
