Victor Wembanyama contract news has locked the San Antonio Spurs star into a five-year, $252 million extension after he helped guide the franchise to its first NBA Finals appearance since 2014.
The 22-year-old French forward was eligible for a larger supermax deal, but chose the maximum rookie-scale extension to leave the Spurs with more room to shape their roster.

Why Wembanyama Took Less
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the San Antonio Spurs offered Victor Wembanyama several contract paths, including a supermax.
Instead, Wembanyama accepted a deal worth 25 percent of the team’s salary cap rather than the 30 percent figure available through the supermax route.
That choice means he left about $51 million on the table.
The move gives San Antonio more salary cap space to build around him, with Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper among the young players who could need long-term deals in future seasons.
What The Extension Means
Wembanyama qualified for the supermax after earning First Team All-NBA honours and winning Defensive Player of the Year last season.
He became the youngest Defensive Player of the Year winner and one of the youngest players ever named First Team All-NBA.
His new contract is the third-largest rookie extension in NBA history, behind the five-year, $269 million deals signed by Cade Cunningham and Evan Mobley.
The official San Antonio Spurs website remains the best place for team news and roster updates as the franchise builds around its young centrepiece.
For the Spurs, the deal does more than secure their best player.
It also gives the front office a chance to add talent around Wembanyama while keeping its long-term plan in place.
