Anthony Caceres Bangkok United move is set to give the former Macarthur FC midfielder a new overseas chapter after missing selection in the Socceroos’ FIFA World Cup squad.
The 33-year-old was part of Australia’s train-on World Cup contingent, but was left out of the final 26-man squad before Macarthur confirmed he would leave the club to “seek an overseas opportunity”.
The move comes during a dramatic World Cup period, with the Mexico-England match postponed due to a lightning storm.
Caceres Heads Back Overseas
Caceres is expected to join Bangkok United in Thailand’s top flight after just one season with Macarthur FC.
The midfielder previously played abroad during the 2017-18 season with UAE Pro League club Al-Wasl.
Bangkok United finished fifth in last season’s Thai League One campaign under coach Totchtawan Sripan.
The club also has an Australian connection, with current Melbourne City coach Aurelio Vidmar having spent nine months in charge in 2022.
Roar Chase Teenage Talent
Brisbane Roar are also poised to add promising young midfielder Max Court from NPL NSW side APIA Leichhardt.
Court, 17, also featured in last year’s Australian Championship and has attracted strong praise from APIA football director Mario Raciti.
“He’s the best player that I’ve seen come through our club,” Raciti told NewsWire in November last year.
For Brisbane Roar, the move would add a young midfielder with long-term potential as the club looks to strengthen its squad.
For Caceres, the Thailand switch offers a fresh chance to rebuild after the disappointment of missing out on the World Cup.
