Julian Nagelsmann resignation has forced Germany into another coaching search after the German Football Federation confirmed his exit following the national team’s World Cup Round of 32 defeat to Paraguay.
The move came on Friday, days after Germany lost 4-3 on penalties to Paraguay in the first knockout round. The four-time world champions had also ended their group stage with a defeat to Ecuador after earlier wins over Curacao and Ivory Coast.

DFB Confirms Nagelsmann Exit
"Stakeholder representatives and the supervisory board of DFB ... on Friday unanimously decided, on the proposal of DFB president Bernd Neuendorf, to immediately terminate the contractual relationship with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann," a statement said.
"Nagelsmann had already asked in a confidential conversation with the association's leadership the previous day to be released from his duties.
"The stakeholder representatives and supervisory board have now granted that request."
Nagelsmann took the Germany job in September 2023 after Hansi Flick’s departure. The former Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich coach finished with 23 wins, seven draws and seven defeats from 37 matches.
Klopp Moves Into Frame
Jurgen Klopp is now the leading name in the search. The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager is currently head of Red Bull’s global football operations.
"With regard to filling the coaching post, the DFB leadership will now seek talks with Jurgen Klopp," the DFB statement said.
"He has already signalled his fundamental willingness to take on the position."
Germany’s next match is their Nations League opener against the Netherlands on September 24. Greece and Serbia are also in their group, leaving the DFB with little time to settle the bench after another painful tournament exit.
