AFL Round 17 teams are beginning to take shape, with Geelong regaining Tom Stewart and Bailey Smith for Thursday night's blockbuster against Brisbane, while the Lions remain without several key players through injury. The Cats host the reigning premiers at GMHBA Stadium to open the round, with Stewart returning from concussion and Smith overcoming illness, but star forward Gryan Miers has again been left out as he continues to manage an ACL injury.
Brisbane, meanwhile, has resisted making changes after its dominant win over Sydney despite several senior players nearing a return.
Cats boosted by key inclusions
Geelong has named Stewart and Smith in a strengthened side after both missed last week's match.
Stewart replaces Jack Bowes, while Smith comes in for George Stevens, who has been omitted.
However, Miers has only been named as an emergency despite progressing in his recovery, allowing Oli Wiltshire to retain his place in the forward line.
The Cats will be hoping the return of two of their most influential players provides a major boost in a clash that could have significant implications for the top four.
Lions back winning combination
Brisbane has opted against making any changes following its convincing victory over Sydney.
The Lions remain without experienced trio Dayne Zorko, Hugh McCluggage and Tom Doedee, who are all expected to return next week as they continue recovering from quad and calf injuries.
Despite those absences, Brisbane has retained the same 23 that produced one of its strongest performances of the season.
