The details of the Fremantle Dockers player management plan have been revealed by senior coach Justin Longmuir as the club charges toward a historic finals campaign. The ladder-leaders extended their winning streak to 14 games with a victory over the Gold Coast Suns on Sunday.
With just three players currently injured, the coaching staff holds unique flexibility over the final eight weeks of the regular season.
While rival clubs face selection headaches due to expanding injury lists, like how Hawthorn Star Nick Watson Sidelined for Melbourne Clash; Rugby League Convert Matt Hill Named to Debut, the purple army remains healthy.
In-Game Rotations Over Full Rests
Longmuir explained that rather than resting healthy individuals for entire fixtures, the coaching staff will reduce game time during live matches. This strategy was visible when utility Luke Jackson sat out the final term.
"I think certain games give us the opportunity to do that; [Luke Jackson] played a little bit less game time in the second half on the weekend because we had control in the game and I think that’s the approach we’ll take," Justin Longmuir said.
Praise for Karl Worner
The coach also praised young defender Karl Worner for his exceptional consistency throughout his breakout year.
"He’s really courageous and puts the head in the hole for us, and he’s using the ball really well, he’s really improved his footy, and it’s great to see him get a little bit of recognition," Longmuir shared.
Tribute to Jamie Cripps
Longmuir also paused to pay respect to West Coast Eagles forward Jamie Cripps following his retirement announcement.
"Overall, he was a great teammate that players loved to play with, so I wish him all the best in his retirement. He’s had a fantastic career," Longmuir stated.
