The Ireland cricket team secured a shocking Ireland historic victory over India by 34 runs at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast on Friday. This stunning result marks the first time the hosts have ever defeated the reigning Twenty20 world champions in any international cricket format.
After being put in to bat first, the home side recovered from a shaky start to post a competitive total of 9 for 182. Ireland cricket team captain Lorcan Tucker led the recovery with a brilliant half-century to set up the defensive masterclass.
This incredible upset mirrors other dramatic cricket encounters this season, such as the action unfolding in the England vs New Zealand third test match. The India cricket team opened their chase aggressively before the Irish bowlers struck back.
India cricket team openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma started by hitting 16 runs off the very first over. However, Irish debutant Jai Moondra turned the momentum immediately by removing Sanju Samson with his first delivery.

Fellow debutant Matt Hollard then tore through the upper order by dismissing Ishan Kishan and India cricket team captain Shreyas Iyer in quick succession. Abhishek Sharma fought back valiantly to reach his own half-century before being caught by Ben Calitz off the bowling of Liam McCarthy.
The pressure continued to mount on the visitors as wickets fell regularly during the tense middle overs. Shivam Dube provided late resistance with a quick 25 runs but was caught and bowled by a composed Jai Moondra.
Gareth Delany and Matthew Humphreys cleaned up the tail efficiently as the home crowd cheered. Cricket fans can check the complete match scorecards and upcoming tournament schedules on the official International Cricket Council website.
The Ireland cricket team and the India cricket team will face each other again for the second and final match of the short series at the same Belfast venue on Sunday.
