Harry Sheezel signs contract extension with North Melbourne until 2032, with the Kangaroos vice captain committing to the club for another two years beyond his previous deal. The 21 year old was already contracted until the end of 2030 but chose to extend his stay as North Melbourne continues its rise toward finals contention. The announcement is a significant boost for the club as it builds around one of the AFL's brightest young stars.
Sheezel's decision comes with North Melbourne sitting at 7 wins and 7 losses ahead of Sunday's clash with Essendon. The Kangaroos are on course to reach the wildcard finals round and are aiming to end a finals drought that stretches back to 2016.
Sheezel backs North Melbourne's future
The No. 3 selection in the 2022 AFL Draft has become the face of North Melbourne's rebuild since making his debut in 2023.
Already a two time Syd Barker Medallist and the 2023 AFL Rising Star winner, Sheezel has developed into one of the competition's elite midfielders while also taking on greater leadership responsibilities.
His faith in the club's direction was reflected in his decision to extend a contract that still had several years remaining.
Career continues to reach new heights
Sheezel is enjoying the best season of his career in 2026, averaging 30.5 disposals and 4.9 clearances per game.
Last season he equalled the AFL and VFL record for most disposals in a single match when he collected 54 touches against Richmond in Round 23.
His consistency, versatility and football intelligence have established him as one of the league's premier young players and a cornerstone of North Melbourne's long term plans.
Leadership recognised by teammates
North Melbourne Head of Football Talent Brady Rawlings praised Sheezel's impact both on and off the field.
"Harry's quality as a player and person has been clear from the moment he walked through the door," Rawlings said.
"His leadership credentials were recognised early on by his teammates, who voted him into the leadership group in only his second season, and made him sole vice captain this year."
The extension reflects the confidence the club has in Sheezel's ability to lead North Melbourne into its next era.
Kangaroos continue securing young core
Sheezel's new deal is the latest piece of North Melbourne's long term list strategy.
George Wardlaw recently signed a two year contract extension that will keep him at Arden Street until at least the end of 2028.
Forward Paul Curtis has also committed his future, agreeing to remain with the Kangaroos until at least the end of 2033.
With several key young players locked away, North Melbourne has strengthened the foundation of its rebuild as it pushes to return to finals football for the first time in a decade.
