Reece Walsh has been recalled to the Queensland Maroons squad ahead of the crucial State of Origin Game 2 in Melbourne after missing selection for the opening match in Sydney. The decision comes as Queensland looks to level the series following a narrow defeat in Game 1. Coach Billy Slater confirmed Walsh will join camp as the 18th man, with his exact role to be determined during preparations for the clash at the MCG.
Slater Backs Walsh Despite Form Struggles
Walsh's return comes during a difficult period at club level, with the Brisbane Broncos losing five consecutive matches. Despite the recent dip in form, Slater remains confident in the talented fullback.
"We think it’s the best thing for the footy team [if he is] on the bench there," Slater said. "We know what Reece is capable of... I have a great relationship with Reece, and he’s built a really good game, and if needed, he’ll perform."
Slater also suggested Walsh could be used in multiple positions if required.
Maroons Add Extra Depth
Murray Taulagi, Kulikefu Finefeuiaki and Heilum Luki have also been included in camp as Queensland searches for a response after its late loss in Sydney. Finefeuiaki earned praise after strong performances for the Dolphins throughout the NRL season.
