Fremantle forward Pat Voss says he is taking antibiotics after suffering a painful cut during last weekend's fiery clash against Brisbane at the Gabba. The Dockers forward revealed he sustained the injury during a third quarter scuffle after several Lions players confronted him following a tackle on Darcy Gardiner. Despite the incident, Voss delivered one of his best performances of the season as Fremantle continued its strong campaign.
The confrontation unfolded early in the third quarter when Voss tackled Gardiner, prompting multiple Brisbane players to react.
Noah Answerth, Harris Andrews and Ty Gallop were among those involved as tensions escalated.
Voss reveals extent of injury after scuffle
Speaking after the match fallout, Voss said the physical aftermath has lingered days later.
“I’m not sure what happened there. A couple of them saw red, apparently,” Voss said on Triple M.
“I was on the ground and was sort of like, gee whizz, wrap it up here.”
The Fremantle forward then explained the injury caused during the exchange.
“I’ve actually got a massive cut under my armpit from old mate pulling my jumper.”
“I’m taking antibiotics and putting cream on it every day. It’s pretty bad.”
Despite the discomfort, Voss played through the incident and continued influencing the contest.
Four goal performance continues breakout season
Voss responded impressively after the altercation and produced one of the strongest performances of his AFL career.
He kicked four goals and collected a career best eight marks as Fremantle secured an important victory.
The performance continued a strong season for the former Essendon listed player, who has become an increasingly important piece of Fremantle's forward structure.
Alongside Josh Treacy and Jye Amiss, Voss has helped create one of the league's most productive attacking combinations.
The trio has combined for 78 goals this season.
Only Hawthorn's combination of Jack Gunston, Nick Watson and Mitch Lewis has produced more among forward trios across the competition.
Voss enjoying life at ladder leaders
Fremantle currently sits at the top of the AFL ladder and Voss admitted he continues appreciating his position within the side.
The forward spoke about the support he has received from both teammates and supporters during his rise.
“I do find myself pinching myself so often even in terms of playing in one of the top teams in the competition,” Voss said.
“I feel so supported by the Fremantle Army, and it’s good to have your own supporters on your back when it feels like other supporters aren’t all cheering for you.”
The Dockers are chasing a historic season and Voss has become an increasingly important figure within their push.
Forward laughs off Joker comparison
Away from football, Voss also addressed an image published by The West Australian last month that portrayed him as comic book character The Joker.
The comparison has become a talking point among supporters due to Voss' aggressive playing style and growing profile.
The forward appeared relaxed about the depiction.
“It doesn’t look too bad,” he said.
As Fremantle continues building momentum, Voss appears increasingly comfortable with both the attention and responsibility that comes with becoming one of the club's key figures.
