Australia's sporting community came together at Allianz Stadium in Sydney on June 3 as former stars from rugby league, rugby union, and Australian rules football showed their support for the CommBank Socceroos ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026. The Allianz Care Cup was created to build excitement before Australia's opening World Cup match against Türkiye, while also encouraging fans to unite behind the national team.

Former athletes including Michael Hooper, Matt Giteau, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Steve Menzies, Brett Morris, Josh Morris, Nick Davis, and Guy McKenna swapped their usual sporting codes for a friendly five-a-side football match. The exhibition game was coached by former Socceroos star Archie Thompson and Matildas legend Heather Garriock.
NSW Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said: “There’s nothing quite like watching Australia compete on the world stage surrounded by fellow fans."
He added: “We’re excited to open Allianz Stadium as a free live site, giving the community an opportunity to come together to experience the CommBank Socceroos’ FIFA World Cup 2026™ opener from the field of play.”
Allianz Stadium will host a free public viewing event for Australia's World Cup opener on June 14, featuring family entertainment, food vendors, merchandise outlets, and football activities.
