Andoni Iraola Liverpool talks have opened as the club begins its search for a new head coach following Arne Slot’s dismissal on Saturday.
Liverpool are moving quickly because they want a manager who can restore a front-foot, aggressive style at Anfield after concerns over the direction of the team in Slot’s second season.

Iraola Becomes Leading Candidate
Andoni Iraola has emerged as the clear frontrunner for the Liverpool vacancy, with his tactical approach viewed as a strong fit for the club’s plans.
The 43-year-old is available after leaving AFC Bournemouth at the end of last season following the expiry of his contract.
Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is leading the talks. Hughes appointed Iraola at AFC Bournemouth from Rayo Vallecano in 2023 and still has a strong working relationship with Iraola’s agent, Iñaki Ibáñez.
The discussions are expected to move quickly, with Liverpool keen to complete the appointment before the World Cup starts on 11 June. Supporters can also follow club updates through the official Liverpool FC website.
Coaching Staff Decision Still To Come
Stuttgart head coach Sebastian Hoeness and RC Lens manager Pierre Sage have also been considered, but Iraola has remained the leading option.
Liverpool have not yet made any formal moves for extra coaching staff, despite links with former midfielder Thiago Alcântara after his departure from Barcelona.
Those decisions are expected only once talks with Iraola reach the final stages. Iraola is likely to want former AFC Bournemouth assistant Tommy Elphick to join him at Anfield if the deal is completed.
