The Colombia World Cup roster 2026 has been confirmed, with head coach Nestor Lorenzo naming an experienced squad led by Luis Diaz and James Rodriguez for the tournament in North America.
Colombia will enter Group K against Portugal, DR Congo and Uzbekistan, with Lorenzo’s side aiming to turn recent wins over Argentina and Brazil into a serious World Cup run.
The South American focus comes alongside another major World Cup selection story, with Tete Yengi earns shock Socceroos World Cup call up before first international appearance adding interest before the tournament begins.
Lorenzo names experienced Colombia squad
Lorenzo confirmed his preliminary squad on May 14 before the final list was settled in the final week of the month.
Colombia’s goalkeeping group includes Alvaro Montero, David Ospina and Camilo Vargas, giving the squad plenty of international experience at the back.
In defence, Santiago Arias, Jhon Lucumi, Yerry Mina, Daniel Munoz, Davinson Sanchez, Johan Mojica, Deiver Machado and Willer Ditta give Lorenzo several strong options.
The midfield contains Jefferson Lerma, Jhon Arias, Kevin Castano, Richard Rios, Juan Fernando Quintero, Jorge Carrascal, Jaminto Campaz, Juan Camilo Portilla, Gustavo Puerta and James Rodriguez.
Up front, Colombia have Luis Diaz, Jhon Cordoba, Cucho Hernandez, Luis Javier Suarez and Carlos Andres Gomez.
Luis Diaz and James Rodriguez key to Colombia hopes
Luis Diaz is expected to be Colombia’s main attacking threat and will be making his World Cup debut.
The Bayern Munich winger gives Lorenzo speed, direct running and a natural outlet in wide areas, especially when Colombia look to break quickly from midfield.
James Rodriguez remains another major figure after recovering from a health concern earlier this year.
The Minnesota United playmaker was hospitalised in March and treated for severe dehydration, but he returned in May and produced two assists in a 2-2 MLS draw with Austin.
Gustavo Puerta could also add fresh energy in midfield after playing a regular role for Racing in Spain during their promotion season.
Colombia enter Group K with high expectations
Colombia qualified from CONMEBOL in third place after finishing level on points with Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay.
Lorenzo’s side beat both Argentina and Brazil during qualification, while their 28-match unbeaten run only ended against Argentina in the 2024 Copa America final.
Colombia will open their World Cup campaign against Uzbekistan at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on June 17.
They then face DR Congo at NRG Stadium in Houston on June 23 before meeting Portugal at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on June 27.
Fans can follow official tournament updates and match details through the FIFA World Cup website.
Colombia World Cup record
This will be Colombia’s seventh World Cup appearance and their third since 1998.
Their best finish came in Brazil in 2014, when they reached the quarterfinals before losing to the hosts.
Colombia also carry a current FIFA ranking of No. 13 as of May 2026.
With a strong core, star forwards and a coach who has already beaten several elite nations, Colombia will not be an easy opponent in Group K.
