Moana Pasifika produced a stirring 21-19 upset over the ACT Brumbies at GIO Stadium on Saturday in what could be the club’s final Super Rugby Pacific match.
The win came days after Moana Pasifika were placed into liquidation, with the club expected to fold unless a late saviour steps in before the 2027 season.

Moana Pasifika rise in farewell game
Moana Pasifika entered the match with a 2-12 record and snapped a 12-game losing streak to avoid equalling a 13-loss record.
The visitors were reduced to 14 men when inside centre Faletoi Peni was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in the second half.
But the ACT Brumbies could not take full control, and substitute Melani Matavao crossed in the 73rd minute after slick passing to seal the upset.
The final whistle brought mixed emotions as Moana Pasifika players and staff gathered for an emotional hymn to mark what may be the club’s last appearance.
Umaga proud after difficult week
“With all that had happened during the week, in terms of Moana going into liquidation, we [knew we wouldn’t] see a lot of our group that we left behind,” Umaga said.
“We talked a lot about our strong purpose of who we represent. We’re representing our culture, our people, and we saw that come through in the end.
“[In all] the emotion of the last few months, today, I couldn’t tell you what happened in those other games ... I can tell you what happened today, and I’m very proud of it. This one stands out.”
Brumbies miss chance before finals
The ACT Brumbies needed a bonus-point win to push higher on the ladder, but the defeat left them sixth.
Rory Scott and Tom Wright scored early, before Patrick Pellegrini’s double pulled Moana Pasifika level at halftime.
Luke Reimer later restored the ACT Brumbies’ lead, but a denied Klayton Thorn try and late defensive lapses proved costly before their finals trip to face the Hurricanes.
