West Australian lightweight Quillan Salkilld will face the toughest opponent of his career when he meets veteran contender Beneil Dariush at UFC Fight Night in Perth on May 2. The bout, announced by UFC president Dana White, will serve as the co main event at RAC Arena, giving the 26 year old rising star a major opportunity in front of his home crowd. Salkilld enters the fight with a strong UFC run and hopes a victory will move him into the lightweight top 15 rankings. The matchup also pairs one of Australia’s fastest rising fighters with one of the division’s most experienced contenders.
Rising Momentum for Quillan Salkilld
Salkilld arrives in Perth riding a four fight win streak inside the UFC and an impressive 11-1 professional record. His most recent victory came earlier this year in Sydney where he secured a first round submission against fellow Australian Jamie Mullarkey. That performance continued a pattern that has quickly caught the attention of fans and analysts.
Three of Salkilld’s four UFC wins have ended in first round finishes. His aggressive style and willingness to push early exchanges have made him one of the promotion’s emerging lightweight prospects. The upcoming contest against Dariush represents the step up in competition he openly requested after his last fight.
After defeating Mullarkey, Salkilld spoke about his next goal in the division.
“I want a big-name opponent. I’m not going to jump the gun too much; I’ve got a realistic call out. I’m not going to be calling for the belt right now,” he said after the win.
“Entering into the top 15 is where I am looking at next and a realistic call out.
“I just want to keep doing what I’m doing, keep the momentum nice and high. Keep making a bigger name for myself.”

Beneil Dariush Brings Veteran Experience
Dariush enters the bout as the No.12 ranked lightweight, holding a professional record of 23-7-1. The American Iranian fighter has spent years competing against elite opponents and has built a reputation as one of the division’s most well rounded competitors.
Known for his strong grappling background and calculated striking, Dariush has often been viewed as a difficult matchup for younger fighters looking to break into the rankings. His experience in high level bouts means Salkilld will face a very different test compared to his previous opponents.
Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping believes the clash has the ingredients for a compelling contest.
“That’s a great fight. Everyone knows Beneil Dariush, the man’s a perennial contender, been around the UFC for a long time,” he said.
“On the flipside, we’ve got Quillan Salkilld, 11-1 overall and on a 10-fight win streak and of course coming off two, back-to-back first-round finishes.”
Historic Fight Night for Australian Fans
The Perth event will also feature a major headline bout involving another Australian star. Former welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena will make his return after losing his title in New York last year.
Della Maddalena is scheduled to face Brazilian striker Carlos “The Nightmare” Prates in the main event. Their matchup promises a high paced striking battle that could set the tone for the entire card.
The card is already being described as historic for Australian fans. For the first time, a UFC event in the country will be held on a Saturday night local time, rather than the traditional Sunday morning schedule used to align with United States broadcasts.
What the Fight Means for the Lightweight Division
For Salkilld, a win over a ranked opponent like Dariush would likely push him directly into the top 15 lightweight rankings. That would place him alongside established contenders and move him closer to the title conversation.
Dariush, meanwhile, is looking to defend his ranking and remain in the mix among the division’s experienced contenders. A strong performance in Perth would reinforce his position as one of the most reliable fighters in the weight class.
With a surging local prospect and a seasoned veteran sharing the Octagon, the Perth crowd at RAC Arena is expected to witness one of the most important fights of Salkilld’s young career.
