The France vs Spain World Cup semi-final will decide a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on Tuesday in Dallas, with Warren Zaire-Emery saying France are ready to avenge their Euro 2024 defeat. France arrive after beating Morocco, while Spain are chasing another major final.
“We want to win against Spain and get our revenge for the Euros,” Warren Zaire-Emery said. “We’re going to have to be focused. It’s a semi-final and that’s what we’re going to do, we’re going to deliver tomorrow.”
The other side of the draw has also attracted attention, with Harry Kane defending Thomas Tuchel’s criticism before the Argentina semifinal.
France consider midfield change
Didier Deschamps could make one change from the France team that defeated Morocco, with Aurelien Tchouameni available after missing two matches because of a muscle injury. The Real Madrid midfielder may replace Manu Kone, who impressed in the quarter-final.
Kylian Mbappe also trained on Monday after suffering an ankle knock against Morocco. Didier Deschamps confirmed that the France captain completed a reduced portion of one drill.
“Yes, he trained,” Didier Deschamps said. “He is allowed to do 10 minutes in one drill instead of 15.”
Spain remain favourites
Didier Deschamps described Spain as favourites, citing their performances since their opening match against Cape Verde. He expects both sides to threaten in attack while remaining aware of their defensive duties.
France have lost their past two tournament meetings with Spain, including the Euro 2024 semi-final and a 5-4 UEFA Nations League defeat. However, Didier Deschamps has rejected talk of revenge and wants his players focused on the contest in Dallas.
“There is no lesson to be learned,” Didier Deschamps said. “It will be a battle of wills. There’s no revenge, the past is in the past.”
