Jack Ross concussion concerns have deepened after the Richmond midfielder was ruled out during Saturday night’s AFL clash against Carlton following a heavy second-quarter collision.
Ross was hurt when he charged toward Carlton midfielder Lachie Cowan near the boundary line and made contact with Cowan’s shoulder before his head hit the ground in front of the interchange bench.
The injury came a week after another fiery AFL talking point, with Brayden Maynard’s umpire contact overshadowing Collingwood’s win over Gold Coast.
Ross Facing Another Spell Out
Ross looked dazed after the collision and went to the rooms for a head injury assessment before Richmond confirmed he had suffered a concussion.
“He’s in trouble, he led with the head ... I think he’s in a bit of strife,” David King said on Fox Footy.
The setback is his second concussion in a month. Ross had delayed symptoms after the Round 12 match against Sydney, then missed two games after Richmond’s bye.
He returned last week against Collingwood, but this latest injury has put the rest of his season in doubt.
Carlton Survive Late Richmond Charge
The injury took some shine off a tense Carlton win, with the Blues holding on by two points after Richmond nearly stole the match late.
Richmond made the brighter start with five first-quarter goals and led by as much as 19 points in the second term.
Carlton responded with five straight goals before halftime and later led by 14 points in the final quarter.
Mykelti Lefau and Seth Campbell dragged Richmond back into the contest, but Carlton’s late tackling pressure sealed their seventh straight win.
Blues Keep Finals Push Alive
George Hewett kicked the match-winning goal and finished with a best-on-ground display, while Jagga Smith gathered a game-high 29 disposals.
Carlton also lost Lewis Young to concussion in the third quarter after he came in late for Harry Dean, who was withdrawn with a cut hand.
Official injury and match updates can be followed through AFL.
Carlton moved to 8-8 under their interim coach and climbed from 16th to 10th. With the new wildcard round in play, the Blues remain in the finals race ahead of games against Hawthorn, Collingwood, Gold Coast and Brisbane.
