Fremantle Dockers contract extensions headline Tuesday’s AFL news after Fremantle Dockers confirmed new deals for Corey Wagner and Charlie Nicholls on June 23, 2026, in Perth. The move locks in experienced utility Wagner until 2028 while giving young forward Nicholls another year at the club. It matters because Fremantle are shaping their list balance between proven depth and emerging talent as they aim to stay competitive in the AFL ladder race.
Wagner stays part of Dockers’ structure
Wagner, who has played 50 games since joining Fremantle in 2023, continues his AFL journey after earlier spells with Melbourne and North Melbourne. The 29-year-old has featured in 12 matches this season but was recently left out in a tight selection call against Geelong. List manager David Walls said Wagner’s attitude has made him a valued squad member.
“He’s a really selfless player and has the capacity to have his magnet thrown around and fill a need,” Walls said.
Nicholls rewarded for WAFL form
Young forward Charlie Nicholls, drafted in 2024, is yet to debut at senior level but has impressed at WAFL club Peel with 19 goals in 10 games this season. Corey Wagner remains a flexible option across multiple roles as Fremantle build squad depth.
