Ollie Robinson England injury concerns have ruled the seamer out of the second Test against New Zealand at The Oval, after the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed he has a sore right knee.
Robinson had starred in England’s 115-run win over New Zealand at Lord’s, taking seven wickets in his first Test appearance for more than two years and earning player-of-the-match honours.
The setback comes during a busy period for cricket planning, with Bold BBL Privatisation Plan Moves Closer After Cricket Australia Reaches State Agreement also showing how the sport’s major competitions are shifting. Robinson Set for Rehab Before Third Test
Robinson felt soreness after a training session on Friday and had a scan the following day.
The England and Wales Cricket Board called up uncapped Henry Crocombe as cover for the second match of the three-Test series.
“Robinson will remain with the squad and undergo rehab work on his knee ahead of the third test,” the ECB added.
The 32-year-old’s absence is a blow after his five wickets in the first innings at Lord’s helped England take control on a difficult pitch.
England Bowling Depth Tested
The second Test begins at The Oval on Wednesday, with England already missing regular captain Ben Stokes and bowler Gus Atkinson.
Both were left out after an investigation into an incident in a London nightclub.
Robinson’s late withdrawal gives England another selection issue as they try to build on their opening win.
New Zealand, meanwhile, will have a chance to respond after being beaten by 115 runs in the first Test.
