The South Sydney Rabbitohs delivered one of their most dominant performances of the NRL season on Thursday night, defeating the Brisbane Broncos 48-6 at Accor Stadium in Sydney. Inspired by teammate Jai Arrow, who was honoured before the match while battling MND, South Sydney overwhelmed the reigning premiers from the opening minutes. The result leaves Brisbane with six consecutive defeats and their premiership defence hanging by a thread.
Rabbitohs Dominate From Start to Finish
Cody Walker controlled the contest with a superb playmaking display, while Alex Johnston crossed for four tries in front of a passionate home crowd. South Sydney raced to a 30-0 halftime lead, the largest halftime deficit in Broncos club history.
The Broncos struggled with handling errors throughout the match, completing just 68 percent of their sets. Their frustration was evident as mistakes piled up and momentum repeatedly swung toward the Rabbitohs.
“The defending premiers, if they haven’t found the bottom of the barrel surely 24-0 right now is it.”
Later, commentator Andrew Voss added:
“Brisbane Broncos you are in a very dark tunnel. The second half will show if there’s any light left.”
Injury Concerns Add to Broncos' Miserable Night
Brisbane's troubles worsened when Adam Reynolds and Ezra Mam suffered injuries, while Jordan Riki also appeared to aggravate a recent foot problem.
