Racing Community Waits For Updates
Bennett was unconscious but reportedly breathing when a high-care ambulance attended to her on the course.
The Australian Jockeys’ Association issued a message of support after confirming the former Western Australian rider had fallen in Queensland.
“Former WA jockey Kristy Bennett, now riding in QLD has had a fall at Gold Coast trials. As soon as we hear more we will let everyone know updated details. Thoughts and prayers are with Kristy.”
Bennett had recently moved to Queensland for a change of scenery and had been riding trackwork for leading local trainer Tony Gollan. Official racing updates can be followed through Racing Queensland.
Bennett Had Started New Chapter
Bennett has ridden 186 winners since starting her career in 2018, with her first ride and first win coming aboard the Paul Jordan-trained Chinetti at Belmont Park.
She later landed her first Saturday winner on the David Harrison-trained Patristic in January 2020 and has ridden in several Group and Listed races.
Earlier this year, Bennett said she wanted a fresh challenge after feeling her momentum had slowed in Western Australia.
“I just got to the point of my life where I wanted to experience something new and have a new challenge,” she said only a fornight ago.
“I did enjoy Perth and I was still getting opportunities.
“But, I just needed something to challenge myself more. I’m really into my fitness.
“I love the gym and I love that sort of lifestyle.”
